

You can take cover on one of the platforms, there is giant “3” written in white on the platform where you can take cover while facing adds. Meanwhile, on the right side, the game will spawn Hammerburst Drones, Tickers, Disciples, and sometimes Kantus and Grenadiers. The good news is that there is a lot of cover on the left side which you can use to protect yourself from the on-coming adds. Also expect to see Boomers appear during the last phase. Hammerhurst Drones will appear during the final third of the Hydra boss fight. The left side of the map will spawn Wretches, Grenadiers, and Tickers. If you don’t do something about these enemies they can kill you, it is easy to get overwhelmed by them. A large number of enemies will spawn from both sides which takes your focus away from Hydra. Hydra won’t be alone during this boss fight in Gears Tactics. You can avoid his road by moving back to where your squads started.

The Hydra telegraphs its Roar by moving to one side of the map and by not placing missile markers. The Roar will also affect Overwatch cones.

This will allow you to minimize the range of the missile blast radius. Hydra usually aims squarely so it is not a bad idea to move your units closer to each other. The further you are from the center of the explosion the less damage you will take from Hydra’s Missle Launcher. These launchers can throw four missiles at you and only give you one turn to move out of the way.
